Ottawa has topped up its commitment to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund with another 12.4 mn euros, lifting Canada's total contribution above 57 mn euros, Ukraine's Ministry of Energy reports.

According to the ministry, the new money is already being directed to the most urgent needs of Ukrainian energy companies and to restoring energy infrastructure across the country, as part of preparations for the next autumn-winter period.

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal thanked Ottawa for what he called consistent backing. "I am grateful to Canada for its consistent support of Ukraine. This assistance is critically important for ensuring the resilience of our energy system amid Russia's constant attacks and for strengthening the country's energy security ahead of the heating season," Shmyhal said.

The Ukraine Energy Support Fund has operated since 2022, channeling contributions from international partners into rapid responses to attacks on the country's energy system and its restoration, the Ministry of Energy reports. Equipment worth roughly 260 mn euros is currently in transit to Ukraine, with delivery expected before temperatures drop.
