Burglary suspect faces murder charges in Jennings killing
CLAYTON, Mo. – A Jennings man already in custody for a litany of burglaries in St. Louis City faces new charges for a 2024 fatal shooting.
According to the St. Louis County Police Department’s probable cause statement, the shooting happened on the afternoon of March 8, 2024, at the Crown Mart gas station and convenience store in the 8300 block of Jennings Station Road.
Responding officers found the victim, Jeremiah Latimore, nearby in the 7000 block of Gaylord Drive. Latimore was pronounced dead at the scene. He was 22.
Investigators learned Latimore had been involved in an altercation at the convenience store with Me’Kel Walker (age not provided). Store surveillance video showed Latimore running from the gas station, with Walker chasing after him.
Police said Walker was caught on video pointing a gun at Latimore and shooting him. Latimore was struck in the back and ran a short distance before collapsing and dying.
The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged Walker with second-degree murder, armed criminal action, and unlawful use of a weapon. It’s not clear when Walker will appear in court on this case due to pending charges in St. Louis City.
Walker was arrested on June 25 and charged the following day in St. Louis Circuit Court with seven counts of first-degree burglary, four counts of stealing – $750 or more, one count of stealing, five counts of first-degree property damage, and one count of first-degree attempted burglary.
