Brush fire near Los Coches Road in Lakeside prompts evacuations, destroys mobile homes

LAKESIDE, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI)-- A vegetation fire that spread 5.3 acres north of the I-8 freeway at Los Coches Road in Lakeside has prompted evacuations, according to CAL FIRE/San Diego County Fire.

A Temporary Evacuation Point has been opened at Viejas Casino, located at 5000 Willows Road in Alpine, as of 3:40 p.m.

The Evacuation Warning was lifted around 6 p.m., while the Evacuation Order remains in effect as of 6:22 p.m.

As of 4:38 p.m. Monday, the forward progress of the fire was stopped.

In the Evacuation Map above, the yellow-shaded areas are currently in Evacuation Warning, while the areas in red are in Evacuation Order.

Cal Fire confirmed Monday evening that two people were injured, one person suffered from smoke inhalation while the other was burned.

Fire officials updated the containment to 75% at 9 p.m.

At least six units in a mobile home park in the area surrounded by vegetation caught on fire, and Cal Fire said that number could change as they continue to investigate the extent of the damage.

American Red Cross volunteers are supporting the temporary evacuation point at Viejas Casino.

The San Diego County Department of Animal Services is offering help to evacuees with pets at the Viejas Casino evacuation point. Evacuees with large animals are directed to Dianne Jacob Lakeside Equestrian Park at 11055 Moreno Ave in Lakeside.

Los Coches Fire

Traffic may be impacted on the I-8 as gusty winds are blowing smoke to the east. Conditions may also not be ideal as the recent heatwave has left the ground dry.
