Brigantine proposes investing $25 million to remodel Port of San Diego
SAN DIEGO (FOX5/KUSI)-- The Port of San Diego may be receiving a major makeover in the near future, courtesy of the local and beloved seafood restaurant bar The Brigantine.
The popular San Diego seafood restaurant, which also operates The Fish Market and Top of the Market on North Harbor Drive at the Embarcadero, has proposed investing $25.5 million to redevelop and modernize the Port of San Diego.
On Tuesday, the Port of San Diego Board of Port Commissioners advanced the proposed project to the environmental review stage, according to a press release from the Port of San Diego.
The proposal involves transforming the area into a two-level dining epicenter called The Landing, complete with two new restaurants and banquet rooms for private events and large gatherings. The Brigantine will keep its popular The Fish Market on site, but it too will receive renovations included in the proposal.

Along with the addition of new restaurants, the renovation would also include adding a public waterfront walkway along the new facility, refreshing the landscape and displaying public art throughout the premises.
“The Landing will transform this stretch of our waterfront into a premier destination,” said Chair Danielle Moore, Port of San Diego Board of Port Commissioners. “San Diego’s waterfront belongs to everyone, and projects like this ensure it stays that way by expanding public access and creating dynamic spaces to gather, dine, and celebrate.
If approved, the existing building would be demolished and replaced with the new two-story facility in the same general location.
Here is what The Landing would include if the project is approved:
First Level:
The Fish Market: Casual seafood restaurant with locally sourced food that can seat almost 300 patrons with indoor and outdoor seating to enjoy the breeze from the bay.
The Little Market: A fast and casual fish market that offers dine-in and on-the-go options. The market can seat around 60 patrons, and will also have breakfast items as well as coffee and gelato.
Banquet facilities: Two indoor banquet rooms and one outdoor patio that can hold around 60 people for private events.
Second Level:
Salt & Sear Prime Steak House: Upscale dining restaurant with around 250 indoor and outdoor seats, complete with views of the San Diego Bay and USS Midway Museum.
Banquet facilities: Three indoor banquet rooms and an outdoor patio that can hold nearly 90 people for private events.
If the next phase is approved, a Coastal Development Permit would also be required before construction.
The Brigantine currently operates 21 restaurants and has been operating in San Diego County since 1969.
