Bizarre journey of stolen family vehicle ends in St. Charles County Court

ST. CHARLES COUNTY, Mo. – The end result in court is one in which Angie Waggoner almost gave up on, as the wheels of justice did not move as quickly as the wheels on her stolen family vehicle.

We were there in March for the recovery of her stolen GMC Yukon after it traveled through 12 cities and became its own crime scene.

“There were about 15 cell phones, 5 or 6 purses,” Waggoner said at the time. “The cat was the most surprising for me.”

Another victim couldn’t bear the smell when she came to get items stolen from her that had her name stamped on them.

“My name is Classie. No one has my name, so how stupid could you be to take something with my name on it?” Classie Hughes said.

Fast forward seven months. Waggoner's vehicle is now back to looking—and smelling—normal.

Waggoner said she, “…gutted it—carpet, everything. We had to put new carpet in and seats in.”

She said she learned suspect, Joshua Uthe, was about to sell her $80,000 dream car for $9,000.

In court, Waggoner said the defendant, “…told me that he was sorry, that he’s changed his life, that he was on drugs.”

A judge sentenced Uthe to a drug treatment program which could allow him out of prison by December 2026, but if he fails or violates probation, he could serve 17 years.

“He was on probation when he took my car,” Waggoner said.

She said prosecutors credited her for doing what other victims before her would not—stand up in court to see justice through.

“No one else ever pursued it,” Waggoner said. “So, I’m thinking maybe that’s why he kept doing it. I’m hoping maybe he does turn his life around.”
