Birch Aquarium spooks guests with 12-foot-tall skeleton in Giant Kelp Forest

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- The Birch Aquarium at Scripps Institution of Oceanography is ready for spooky season! Guests can expect to be greeted with a giant skeleton in the Giant Kelp Forest as part of the aquarium's Halloween celebration.

The 12-foot-tall skeleton can be viewed live on the aquarium's Kelp Cam, swaying with the giant kelp accompanied by Moray eels, horn sharks, Garibaldi and a giant sea bass.

Guests can also tune in on Sundays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at 10:30 a.m. to see divers swimming with the skeleton.

According to an aquarium spokesperson, the skeleton received approval from both its animal care and veterinary teams prior to being installed.

The skeleton joined the Giant Kelp Forest just in time for the aquarium's Halloween Aglow, a family-friendly event taking place on Oct. 24-25 from 6 to 8:30 p.m.

Guests of all ages are encouraged to visit in Halloween costumes, especially ocean-themed ones.

The event will feature live music and fun games. Plus, scuba divers will carve pumpkins underwater!

Tickets for Halloween Aglow are $22.50 for adult members 13 and over and $45 for adult non-members. They cost $20 for members ages 3-12 and $40 for non-members in the same age range. Children 2 and under are free.
