SAN DIEGO -- The Ale Riders are a group of extreme bike riders who love to drink beer together.

They started out as just a bunch of dads in Temecula supporting their daughters in ballet.

"We became great friends along the way. We shared interests and passions, and here we are,"  said Dr. David Lu.

Once the group of 50-year-olds got closer, they challenged each other to get healthier. From riding around the block to preparing for the 8-day 525-mile California Coast Classic.

"I think it's crazy. But as you get older, you have to decide, are you going to get busy living? The other way is not a good option," says David Gunn.

It’s their 4th time participating in the West Coast trek. The Ale Riders are eager to raise money for research on arthritis.

"We love to cycle, we love to cycle together. What a great opportunity to support a cause," says Lorenzo Villafranco.

When it’s all said and done, you can bet they’ll celebrate with an ice-cold beer.

The 35th annual California Coast Classic begins on September 6th.
