Bevo flower shop celebrates a century of blooms
ST. LOUIS – Russell Florist’s roots run deep in the Bevo neighborhood. Louise Russell opened the shop 100 years ago, beginning her floral career crafting paper roses. The old flower press sits next to the cash register inside.
An anniversary party drew several family members and many longtime customers, all of them eager to honor the legacy of the Russell family.
“So, 100 years simply means that this place is doing something right,” long-time customer Ozella J. Foster said.
The event included a ceremonial ribbon-cutting to mark a new chapter for the beloved shop under its new ownership.
“The new owners have been nice enough to keep the name. They could have changed the name, but they didn’t, and now we’re here to celebrate this event,” family descendant Gerard Russell said.
