Beloved Jefferson Co. Sheriff’s Office K-9 dies
JEFFERSON COUNTY, Mo. - The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office announced the passing of one of its K-9s on Tuesday.
Deputies say K-9 Maro—who served at the department since 2016—passed away at home on Monday, surrounded by family. The sheriff’s office believes K-9 Maro’s cause of death was related to health complications.
“He did everything you could ask a police canine to do, including apprehending suspects, tracking and locating missing and wanted people, finding narcotics, protecting his handler, Deputy Scott Burkard and putting on a show during countless demonstrations for community groups,” the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office wrote.
Although K-9 Maro was tasked with various responsibilities, he remained joyful in his job and loved interacting with children, the department says.
“Our hearts go out to Deputy Burkard and his family. We'll miss you, Maro. Thanks for being such a good boy,” the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office concluded.
