BackStoppers to support family of fallen Sikeston officer

ST. LOUIS -  BackStoppers, a St. Louis nonprofit that supports families of first responders killed or injured in the line of duty, is now assisting the family of a fallen Sikeston police officer.

On Monday, officer Henry Franklin responded to a call for "mutual aid." Police say he was fatally shot while serving a warrant at a home to a homicide suspect.

A police standoff followed. The suspect was later found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

“We stand by the family of Officer Henry Franklin, the Sikeston Department of Public Safety and surrounding communities. Officer Henry is a hero and we will honor his legacy by serving his family today and for the road ahead," said Lt. Col. Lawrence M. O’Toole, BackStoppers Executive Director via a news release on Friday.

BackStoppers helps families manage debt, cover medical insurance and assist with unexpected extraordinary expenses, among other services.

Franklin had served in Sikeston since 2013 and also had experienced with the U.S. Army's National Guard. He is survived by his wife and four children.
