Arrest made in retribution shooting after stabbing

CLAYTON, Mo. – Police arrested man last week for shooting a person who stabbed his brother.

According to a St. Louis County Police Department probable cause statement, the shooting happened Sept. 5 in the 7600 block of Idlewild Avenue in Jennings.

Police said Samuel D. Harris was angered after learning his brother had been stabbed. Harris left the residence on Idlewild and retrieved a gun.

Harris returned to the house, saw the person who stabbed his brother standing on the front porch, and shot him. Police said the victim was struck three times.

Harris left the area but was arrested a short time later.

Police said Harris confessed to the shooting during an interview.

The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged Harris with first-degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon, and armed criminal action. Harris remains jailed without bond. He’s scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 15 for a bond reduction hearing, with a preliminary hearing slated for Oct. 9.
