Armed suspect dead after St. Louis officers fire shots, respond to drug complaints
ST. LOUIS - Two St. Louis officers shot at an armed suspect Saturday morning while responding to several drug complaints. The suspect was found dead after the gunfire.
The suspect died in the 3600 block of South Grand Boulevard in St. Louis' Gravois Park neighborhood. No officers were shot or injured.
According to Janice Bockstruck, St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department Major, around 10 a.m., two districts officers were patrolling the area when they stopped to investigate an individual. The police stop followed "numerous" complaints of drug activity.
As the driving officer stopped, the passenger officer exited the vehicle and approached two individuals on a sidewalk. One ran away from the scene. The other, who police have identified as a "suspicious" suspect, immediately produced a firearm.
In response, both officers fired shots at the suspect, including one from the vehicle. The suspect then fled to a gated area in the 3600 block of South Grand Boulevard.
That led to a second encounter with one of the two responding officers. The subject was spotted and still armed, and at some point, one responding officer fired a shot at the suspect.
The suspect, whose age is believed to be in the 20s, was later found dead at the scene, though St. Louis police did not immediately confirm whether the suspect was struck and killed from an officer's gunfire.
Police recovered a weapon the suspect reportedly possessed. The suspect's identity has not been disclosed at this time.
The two officers connected to this case had one year and six years of service.
The second individual at the scene ran away as officers responded to the "suspicious" armed subject.
