All-girl school’s reaction to Swift engagement goes viral
ST. LOUIS - Local all-girl private school Cor Jesu Academy is going viral for its intercom announcement about Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s engagement.
“A lot of the world is interested in Taylor Swift,” said Natalie Gorla, marketing content manager.
Gorla made the announcement while students were in class and had no access to their phones.
“This is our first year where they cannot have their cell phones out," said Kathleen Pottinger, dean of Student Life. “We were both like, ‘Oh, they don’t know, right?’”
The video has 2.7 million views and counting on TikTok.
“We thought, why not just interrupt the class to make them a little happy in the middle of the day and fill them in on the news?” Gorla said.
Pottinger said student reaction was mixed, according to teachers.
“Apparently there was some shrieking. There was also a lot of people; like, a lot of students were like, ‘Wait, is Natalie pranking us?’” Pottinger and Gorla said.
While much of the staff and students are fans of Swift, Pottinger and Gorla said they enjoyed the moment because their girls did.
“It's less about Taylor Swift and it's more about the things that our girls care about and us wanting to say, ‘We get you; we see you,'" Gorla said.
Pottinger and Gorla said it would be their “Wildest Dreams” if Swift saw the video, and she and Kelce are always welcome at Cor Jesu Academy.
