AirTag helps recover $9K in stolen photography equipment

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. -- A 22-year-old man from Ferguson, Missouri, has been charged after allegedly stealing $9,500 worth of photography equipment from a business.

According to court documents, Orlandis Douglas stole the equipment from the victim's vehicle on Aug. 6 when the victim went inside.

The victim was loading the photography equipment into his car outside of his business, and when he went back inside, Douglas allegedly took the victim's cell phone and a bag containing an AirTag. The bag also contained a camera, lenses, and a laptop computer worth $9,500.

After discovering the theft, the victim was able to track the stolen items by pinging the tag and driving to the location. The victim located Douglas and stopped him, then called police.

The victim's cell phone, AirTag, and photography equipment were recovered with the bag.

Douglas has been charged with one count of stealing $750 or more and is awaiting preliminary hearing on Sept. 3.
