Affton Hockey honoring Colin Brown through renovations
AFFTON, Mo. - Nearly nine months following the death of CBC student and hockey player Colin Brown, his club hockey organization is continuing to honor their teammate.
The Affton Americans Hockey club posted to social media Sunday evening that renovations were underway in their upstairs meeting room, which will be renamed after Brown "to keep his spirit alive in our organization." The Brown family had donated part of the money raised to Affton Hockey.
Additionally, Affton Hockey has retired Brown's number, 72, for all levels.
Plans to renovate the area were initially announced in July. The space will be used for creating team video trainings, team bonding events, meetings, and special events like high schools senior nights, according to Affton Hockey Communications Manager Amy Zimmerman. Currently, the project is in the beginning stages.

16-year-old Colin Brown was struck by a stray bullet on Interstate 55 while leaving a hockey game with his dad on Nov. 23. He died four days later.
Brown was a hockey player, both for the varsity team at Christian Brothers College and at Affton Americans Hockey.
“He’s the first guy to pat you when you’re down and the first to celebrate you when you’re up,” Blake Ryan, assistant coach of Brown’s team, told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch in November. “He was a natural leader and always quick to do the right thing.”
