73-year-old hit by car at West County Mall: Officials

DES PERES, Mo. - A driver reportedly struck an elderly pedestrian Wednesday afternoon near West County Mall.

Officials say they received a call about a person who was struck by a vehicle just before 1 p.m. When officials arrived at the parking lot, they located the victim, a 73-year-old man, who sustained serious injuries.

The man was transported to a hospital for medical treatment, officials say.

Des Peres officers were able to identify the suspected vehicle later that day off at Highway 44 in Franklin County. Deputies from the Franklin County Sheriff's Department tried to stop the alleged driver, but they drove away from officials.

Deployed spike strips ended the pursuit, according to Des Peres officials. The suspected driver was taken into custody; their identity has yet to be released pending investigation.
