ST. LOUIS - St. Louis Police took four juveniles into custody overnight as they investigate whether the boys, ranging in age from 15-17, are responsible for a carjacking.

Police say the department’s Real Time Crime Center alerted investigators to the location of a vehicle carjacked late Tuesday night.

A 67-year-old Uber driver reported being carjacked near Kennerly and Newstead Avenues around 11:30 p.m.

Police said a gunshot was fired as the driver ran away.

No one was injured.

However, two police cars crashed during a pursuit, but no serious injuries were reported. The juveniles were taken into custody after the vehicle sustained a flat tire.

“It’s disturbing,” said Michael Morrow, a nearby resident. “It’s sad.”

Morrow worries the crimes will keep others from making deliveries in the area.

“There are older people that you know can’t get out and need that type of delivery to come in and help them out,” Morrow said.

Police released the juveniles to their guardians.

Mich McCoy, the department’s director of public affairs information, said investigators were still working to determine if the juveniles arrested inside the vehicle were responsible for the carjacking.
