2 more in custody for Mt. Vernon mass shooting

MT. VERNON, Ill. – Mt. Vernon Police announced two more arrests in connection to the fatal mass shooting at a birthday celebration on July 27.
Police have arrested Davonta Boyd, 25, of Mt. Vernon, Illinois, and Dequan Hopkins, 29, of Wayne City, Illinois.
Officials charged Boyd and Hopkins with aggravated discharge of a firearm in relation to the incident that claimed two lives and injured five others.
Hopkins was also charged with the unlawful possession of a firearm as a repeat offender.
Another suspect, 26-year-old Jamaro Kemmerling, was arrested in connection to the shooting in July. Kemmerling faces similar charges, including aggravated discharge of a firearm and unlawful possession of a firearm by a repeat offender.
Jerria Smith, 22, was also arrested in relation to the shooting. She was charged with reckless discharge of a firearm and obstruction of justice, officials say.
