2 drivers charged with DWI in 2024 fatal crash
ST. CHARLES COUNTY, Mo. – Two men are accused of drunk driving in a 2024 crash in Lake St. Louis that claimed the life of a Wentzville woman.
According to a crash report filed by the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 2:15 a.m. on Dec. 14, 2024, on Veterans Memorial Parkway, just east of Lake St. Louis Boulevard.
The highway patrol said a 2015 Cadillac CTS made a left-hand turn from a private driveway toward Lake St. Louis Blvd. when a 2015 Dodge Durango slammed into the CTS on the passenger side.
A female passenger in the Cadillac was pronounced dead at SSM St. Joseph Hospital just before 3:30 a.m. She was 62.
Neither the woman nor the driver of the Durango were wearing their seatbelt at the time of the collision, the crash report said.
The highway patrol learned that the Durango was traveling between 85 and 90 miles per hour in a 50 mph zone when it struck the CTS.
When state troopers met with the driver of the Durango, Kevin R. Jenkins, at the hospital, they suspected he was under the influence. Jenkins allegedly admitted to taking prescription medication prior to the crash. A blood test was given, and Jenkins’ BAC came back at 0.21%, more than twice the legal limit. Authorities said the test also detected amphetamines, lorazepam, alprazolam.
Investigators made a similar observation of Mark A. Hazeltine, the driver of the CTS. Hazeltine told police he'd had two bourbon and cokes. After failing a breath test, Hazeltine agreed to submit a blood test. Hazeltine’s BAC registered at 0.122%. He also tested positive for alprazolam.
The St. Charles County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged both Hazeltine and Jenkins with DWI – death of another. They’re each being held on a $100,000 cash-only bond. Online court records do not show when they’ll appear before a judge.
