ST. LOUIS – Less than two weeks after the armed carjacking of a rideshare driver in north St. Louis, authorities have identified and charged one person connected to the crime.

According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department’s probable cause statement, the carjacking occurred the morning of Aug. 7 near Carter and North Newstead avenues.

Police said a Lyft driver accepted a fare near the intersection and drove to pick up the alleged customer. When the driver arrived, multiple people jumped into his Toyota Corolla.

One person pulled out a gun and demanded the driver’s personal belongings. The driver was yanked from the Corolla. The front passenger moved into the driver’s seat and fled in the victim’s car.

Investigators later identified the front passenger as Kashaun A. Rush.

On Friday, the St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office charged Rush with first-degree robbery and armed criminal action. An arrest warrant does not allow the possibility of bond.

It’s unclear if Rush was already in custody prior to last week’s charges.
