15-year-old arrested for fatal stabbing in Lemay: Police

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. - A 15-year-old is behind bars following a fatal stabbing that happened in the Lemay neighborhood on Sunday.

St. Louis County officers from the South County Precinct were alerted to reports of a stabbing occurring in the 200 block of Carrington Lane shortly before 4:30 p.m. on Aug. 17.

When law enforcement arrived at the scene, they located the victim, 39-year-old Derrick Merit of St. Louis, suffering from multiple stab wounds.

First responders, attempting to save Merit's life, took him to the hospital, but he died from his injuries, according to the St. Louis County Police Department (SLCPD). A day after the deadly incident, SLCPD announced they arrested a suspect, a teenager.

The teen, currently held at the St. Louis County Family Court, faces the following charges:

  • Second-degree murder
  • Armed Criminal Action

SLCPD's Bureau of Crimes Against Persons is investigating the case.
