According to the Chula Vista Police Department, officers conducted the roadblock in the 300 block of East H Street from 6 p.m. to midnight.

A total of 4,193 vehicles traveled through the checkpoint and 1,189 vehicles were screened by officers. Authorities said two motorists conducted field sobriety tests, though neither were arrested for driving under the influence.

However, six drivers were cited for driving without a license or with a suspended license, and another four were issued citations for reasons not provided. Additionally, one vehicle was impounded during the checkpoint.

“DUI checkpoint locations are determined based on reported incidents of impaired driving-related crashes,” the department noted in a press release. “The primary purpose of DUI checkpoints is to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off roads.”

Funding for this checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
