1 dead, 1 injured after crash near Sainte Genevieve

STE. GENEVIEVE COUNTY, Mo. - One person is dead and another was left injured Sunday morning after a single vehicle crash on Interstate 55 near Sainte Genevieve.

According to a report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP), the crash occurred a little after 9:30 a.m. on southbound I-55 near the 154 mile marker, involving a Pontiac G5.

The crash happened as the Pontiac was traveling southbound on I-55. At some point, MSHP says the vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway and struck a rock bluff, causing the vehicle to overturn.

The driver of the Pontiac, a 21-year-old Sainte Genevieve man, was pronounced dead on the scene, according to MSHP. A passenger inside the vehicle was left seriously injured after the crash.

According to MSHP, the driver of the Pontiac was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, while the passenger in the vehicle was not.
